Greek or Albanian?
This is a blog inspired by a few posts on ancestry boards of people that were searching for their real ethnicity /origin. They thought they were Greek but they were actually Albanian. And then some opportunistic losers try to hide it by bashing their own race, only to have their last names and history give it away. Remember: "Elinas genise, dhen ginese pote, to ima su tha hisume, guruni albane"

Tsafas - Could be from Xhafa
If your name is Tsafas, it can be from Xhafa, a widely used name in Albania (I'm not sure of its origin)
Liappis = Albanian
If you are named Liappis you are probably Albanian by blood. That clan was mentioned in several Ali Pasha books as being good at raiding women from their fellow Albanian Soulites, and as far as I can remember reading, they were constantly pissed off at each other.
Part of the clan was Muslim, part Orthodox but they kept changing.

Gkonis = Gjoni, Albanian last name
If your last name is Gkonis you are probably Albanian.
Gkonis is the 'Greek' version of Albanian catholic Gjoni or John.
Gjergj Kastrioti's father was named Gjon Kastrioti in 1400's and it's still a very popular last name.

Gkinis = Albanian Gjini - Last Name
If your name is Gkinis you are probbaly Albanian by origin, as are many, many "Greeks." Your Name comes from a greekized (?) version of Gjini, sort of John in Albanian. It's a catholic last name still used in Albanian. You moved from Catholic to Byzantine Catholic--swore allegiance to the Pope--to Greek Orthodox, as only the Orthodox Church was under the protection of the Turks.
It's also used as a combo with Pali (Paul), Leka etc to form Gjipali, Gjileka etc.

Geoulekas or Gioulekas = Albanian
If your name is Geoulekas or Gioulekas you are probably an Albanian by blood.
This name comes from Gjoleka, which is comprised of Gjon Leka or Gjok Leka, both medival Catholic Albanian names. Lek Dukagjini is a famous Albanian from back then for example. Gjon is the Albanian version of John and Leka is short for Alex, Alexander.

Pyrros Dimas is Pirro Dhima = Albanian
The most popular 'Greek' of the last 2 decades is....Albanian and no one knows it better than him.
That's no secret in Himara or Albania, he has a dinaric look, probably his family came from Mirdita or Malesia, in North Albania. Some see it as a smart move as Albania didn't provide him much, others see his as an opportunist scumbag as he went above and beyond what was needed to make a living. For example he bashed Albania and Albanians, his own blood to win brownie points from Greek nationalists that hate his bloodline. He became a phony Greek only after communism fell and had the chance to make it big in a EU country. In fact Greece didn't give a crap about him or his family until he hit it big. Then came the free dhrami and Greek passports. (FYI: Greece also got Luan (Lion) Shabani (Muslim last name) to change his name to Leonidas Sampanis /Sabanis or something. But he disgraced himself by using steroids so it was all in vain.)
Pirro Dhima's Arberesh cousins in Italy, that left way before nationalism and EU passports came, are proud to of Albanian origin and so are most of his cousins in Himara.
And, finally, here is the list of Himara families in the 17th century as recorded by the Turks bearing old Albanian Catholic names:

Dhima as a last name is often used with Koke (head) like Kokedhima and probably means headache as 'dhimbje' means ache. Notice any Dimas above? Nope. Pirro is used as name and was pushed by Enver Hoxha along with other old names like Ilir, Arber, Taulant etc.
If a Greek slept with his mom or grandma he maybe part Greek, that I don't know, so I'm not 100% sure, but then he is only a Greek kopil, or bastard.
